The Abi Project

Catrin & Abi are proud to be part of a BSL project that aims to support schools in their efforts to introduce BSL into the classroom.

How we support children and teachers

Introducing a new language to the classroom can be difficult. There is a lack of BSL infrastructure for children. So Catrin and Abi want to help all children to learn a language they use in every day activities and learning.

With years of BSL teaching experience, our Education Support Specialist (ESS) focuses entirely on the needs of the classroom, with learners and teachers in mind.

We can support teachers in incorporating BSL into other lessons and aspects of learning to aid with repetition and imprinting.

We know that English is not always the main language of learning, and BSL learning does not need to stop because of that. The Catrin & Abi Method can help children learn other oral languages.

How the Abi Project works

During the original Abi Project pilot, nearly 350 schools throughout North Wales’ six counties were given resources and access to the Catrin & Abi Method.

Having developed the method for teaching and supporting the classroom, we have taken the lead in expanding the training of teachers and helping children learn BSL and develop their wider SLC needs using the Catrin & Abi Method.
